You should check your computer for the DNSChanger Malware before Monday, aka Internet Doomsday. That’s when the safety servers that have been protecting hundreds of thousands IP addresses world-wide will be turned off, effectively blocking those compnuters from the Internet. It’s estimated that seven thousand in Canada are infected. DNSChanger was run by a criminal ring that hijacked thousands of IP addresses, using them to re-route individuals computers to malicious or illegal websites where DNSChanger loaded, essentially taking control of the computer.
The malware was first detected in 2007 but it was only last fall that the FBI was able to break-up the Eastern European criminal ring that was running it. The FBI set up temporary servers, which have been run by an internet security company since early this year. But those servers will be turned of at 12:01 a.m. Monday.
